Is There a Link Between Zantac and Cancer?
The link between NDMA and cancer is well established in research. Since the 1980’s, NDMA has been listed as an extremely hazardous material with the potential to cause cancer.

NDMA is an organic chemical that was discovered during the development of rocket fuel.

It is toxic to many parts of the body including the vital organs.

The FDA, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) all classify NDMA as a dangerous carcinogen.

According to the WHO, “NDMA is clearly carcinogenic. There is overwhelming evidence that NDMA is mutagenic and clastogenic.”

In September 2019, the FDA requested that Sanofi conduct testing of Zantac after discovering potential contamination with NDMA.

Now, evidence suggests that the manufacturers of Zantac - Sanofi and Boehringer Ingelheim - knew about the risk and concealed the hazard from millions of Zantac users.

In October 2019, Sanofi issued a voluntary recall of over-the-counter (OTC) Zantac in the United States. The Zantac recall affects:
  • Zantac 150
  • Zantac 150 Cool Mint
  • Zantac 75
Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Wal-Mart and CVS have all voluntarily stopped selling Zantac and Ranitidine products out of an abundance of caution.
I Take Zantac, What Should I Do?
The FDA does not advise consumers to stop using Zantac or Ranitidine.

Rather, if you take Zantac and experience side effects or symptoms of cancer, you should talk to your doctor.

There are alternative medications that may work for you if you are being treated for:
  • Heartburn
  • Acid Reflux
  • Peptic Ulcer Disease
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
If you are one of the millions of Americans who take Zantac for these conditions, it is natural that you are alarmed and concerned about your health.

Speak with your doctor about the risk of Zantac and cancer.

If you have received a diagnosis of cancer and have taken Zantac, please call AkinMears, L.L.P. for a free case evaluation, immediately.
